Elden Ring has the highest Metacritic score of any PS5 game this year. God of War Ragnarok was, up until recently, the PS5 game with the second-highest Metacritic score this year. But that’s no longer the case. The latest iteration of God of War is currently the third-rated PS5 game of the year. Even though it is seven years older than the most recent Kratos adventure, the PS5 game that currently holds the second-highest rating is a legendary title.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is now the second-highest rated PS5 game of 2022, surpassing God of War Ragnarok. The Witcher 3’s next-generation release for the PS5 and Xbox Series X arrived on December 14 with a long list of upgrades over the game’s previous generation release.
The Witcher 3 received positive reviews upon its recent release and currently has a Metacritic score of 94. In contrast, the PS4 version of the 2015 original game has a Metacritic score of 92. God of War Ragnarok also has a 94 on the PS5, as you may know, but it is ranked below The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt presumably because the latter is nearer a 95 than the former. The Witcher 3 is only behind Elden Ring, which has a rating of 96, which is an impressive accomplishment for CD Projekt Red. With this figure, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has outperformed one of the year’s biggest new releases.
It might not be a fair comparison because The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a re-release of an already well-liked game while God of War Ragnarok is a brand-new title. Furthermore, The Witcher 3’s PS5 version only has 24 critic reviews compared to Ragnarok’s 141 on Metacritic. It will be interesting to see where the next-generation release of The Witcher 3 ends up because the final rating may change as more reviews are added. Nevertheless, even though both of them are among the most highly regarded games of the last few years, it’s unusual for games to receive such high review ratings. But Elden Ring, which won numerous Game of the Year awards, will be remembered as the game with the highest Metacritic score of 2022. Because The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a re-release of an older game rather than a brand-new release, fans should be aware that they may not be eligible for some end-of-year awards.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which was first made available in 2015 by CD Projekt Red, was hailed as the best game of its year, one of the best of its generation, and even in the conversation for the greatest games of all time. In other words, the fact that its PS5 port, which improves the game’s graphics and performance, adds new content, and enhances the overall experience with quality-of-life features, is receiving such positive reviews is not surprising given that the original received favourable reviews as well.
