Returnal, a beloved PS5 title, will be released on PC. The great shooter’s port has long been rumoured, and now the PC release has been officially confirmed.
When Returnal was first launched, it really took off. The scenery was quite unique, and the gameplay cycle was very alluring. However, there was a problem: Returnal was only available for the PS5, which meant that most sci-fi/horror fans couldn’t play it. Thankfully, the Returnal PC port has now been announced, so it appears this is changing.
Before the formal announcements, there have been a number of web indications that point to a PC port. In May, a new game dubbed “Oregon” appeared in the Steam Database, which is essentially a live archive of every available product on the site and was thought to be Returnal undercover. The term “Tower of Sisyphus,” which is blatantly a reference to one of Returnal’s DLC locales, and the phrases “rogue-like,” “sci-fi,” and “female protagonist” were all used to describe the product.
Returnal is being developed for the PC with assistance from Climax Studios. A variety of PC-specific adjustments and improvements will be made for our PC version to ensure the experience is as seamless as possible. More on these specifics will be provided later, but know that you will be met with a cutting-edge Housemarque challenge and that all the bells and whistles are designed to enhance the gaming experience, including the Tower of Sisyphus’s unrelenting difficulty and the online co-op option.
New players will join Selene on the strange planet Atropos, where she is trapped in a cycle and a situation on a cosmic horror scale. Take on merciless foes and waves of bullet-hell projectiles while contrasting them with ominous historical settings. The action gameplay at the heart of the game captures Selene’s struggle as she sets out to understand the circumstances behind her captivity.
The game also includes first-person sequences that let you explore a familiar home and discover the story that is hidden within our protagonist’s head. There are many possible interpretations for everything, including the tale you encounter. Nothing is precisely as it seems.
Early in 2023, Returnal will be available on PC, following several leaks and rumours. This information was made public during the Game Awards 2022. We regrettably don’t yet have a specific date, but let’s hope it won’t take too long.
